Project Proofing

Trai wants to make clear: "I would estimate that almost 100% of DVD Studio Pro projects submitted for replication could be improved, and a very high percentage have potentially fatal flaws. In the recent period, during my 23 DVD SP DVD-9 bug fix projects I've done, 19 had to be returned to good authors before proceeding, for asset fixes and authoring errors" (Trai is able to correct authoring errors, upon approval).

Send your project to Trai on DVD-Recordable or Firewire drive (for DVD-9s) so Trai can take a look. All project paramaters are given the fine-tooth comb; AND project verification with expensive replicator software help's Trai take out the guesswork of whether or not your disc is ready to replicate. Trai will give you a detailed report and have plenty of recommendations based on experience.

DVD Project Premastering

Let Trai write the DLTs for DVD-5 and 9 disc's, fill out the proper paperwork the replicator needs, and send the tapes to the manufacturing facility of your choice, or recommended by Trai, in special shock proof shipping containers.

Trai would like you to know; " I can also add the crucial features DVD Studio Pro lacks in the project's build files before writing the DLTs, as well; especially disabling specific users remote control operations (UOPs) in important areas of the project (DVD SP does not currently allow disabling specific UOPs in the project. This will change with DVD SP 2.0). The importance of this cannot be stressed enough."

Trai continues, "ALL DVD Studio Pro DVD-9 Projects should be premastered with the TFDVD-9 Maker method. Apple has not fixed the layer break bug, even with the latest version 1.52. Serious problems can happen in a certain percentage of players, if the layer break occurs in the middle of a video stream in a Track, the way DVD SP currently defines the layer break cell (Apple's left the cell defined as "seamless", when it should be defined as "non-seamless", so the player can pause at the layer break, giving the needed time for its laser to refocus to the second layer".

Project Pre-planning

While you're at it, you may as well consider talking to Trai before you start the encoding of assets and authoring of the project. This can potentially save lost days and weeks.
